Skeleton

Dead fir tree

The skeleton of a dead fir tree stands tall at Clingmans Dome.  The balsam woolly adelgid, a small insect, is killing off Fraser Fir trees in the upper elevations of the Appalachians and the hemlock woolly adelgid is doing the same to the Hemlock trees throughout the Great Smoky Mountains National Park leaving “skeletons” where these trees once thrived.
